We got Bob home and he was well on his way to feeling better. When the Orton's and I drove up to pick him up he was waiting outside the hospital on the sidewalk for us. In he got and off to home we went. Later that day he drove us to the podiatrist for our visit. The rest of the week was good for him. He was back in the temple by Thursday, going shopping, running errands, attending meetings, going for haircuts, and other such stuff.
It was the last week before maintenance shutdown so patrons were busy in the temple. There was a group from Paris in for the week and Saturday was very busy with new patrons, sealings, baptism sessions, etc.
We remembered birthdays for Sam, Lorili, Kim, and Jeanna.
Peter Banks wanted us to go out for a meal before they finished their mission at the end of the week. He was keen on a party so he invited the Wade's and Crowther's to join us at Tammy's Thai restaurant. It is just across the road from the temple and we really enjoyed the atmosphere, service, and delicious food. For all the time we have been here, it was our first time there.
Janice & Peter Banks, English but live in France.
Peter stopped by our flat after the rugby game on Saturday to say a "proper" goodbye. He has taken to Bob and really likes him. He is always telling us how much he enjoys working with Bobby Brown. Anyway, we had a delightful visit with him as he made himself comfortable and told us stories about his experiences as a perfume fragrance salesman in Khartoum, Africa. He always tells us too, that his joining the church was the best thing that ever happened to him and it led him to Janice. That is another story!
Bob & Brenda Crowther, from Lewiston, ID.
Us.
Brian & Penny Wade, English periodic workers. He is a sealer.
After church on Sunday, Roger & Moira Head came by to say goodbye. Their mission ended as well and we have become quite close as we have worked together in the temple. They were our assistant coordinators and we had like thoughts, ideas, and goals. We will really miss them. We found the goodbye to be difficult but treasure the experience.
We then packed up and headed to Wimbledon where we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at Colliers Wood. We made a dry run on the bus system to get us to the hospital in order to be ready for early Monday morning. The trip was a success and we found the bus stopped right at the hospital with only one bus change.
These columns are throughout the hallways of the hotel. Makes it difficult for carrying luggage through. They could be traffic calming devices or support pillars for the building itself.
Monday was the big day and we were out of the hotel at 6 a.m., caught the bus to Merton Road, changed buses, and then arrived at Parkside Hospital at 6:30 a.m. We checked in and Bob was put in a room.
His face and thigh were marked.
The long wait began and Bob made himself comfortable. I was busy crocheting and enjoying the warm sunshine that came in through the window. Time continued on and it was 11 a.m. before he was walked to surgery.
Under local anesthetic, Professor Powell removed the patch of skin in question from the right side of Bob's face and grafted in a piece of skin from his right thigh. It was about an hour later when he came back into the room. Food came and he was feeling much better.
Post surgery dressings.
The rest of the day was quiet with me taking off back to the hotel for a rest and Bob taking a nap. I made a stop on the way back to hospital to take a look in a shop or two and found Strada where I had a Goat's cheese spinach salad with beet root and pumpkin for dinner. It was delicious and the break from the cold weather outside was much needed.
I joined Bob in watching a movie and he had dinner served. It was 7 p.m. and dark outside so I bundled up and took the bus back to the hotel. We were thankful the surgery went well. We appreciate all the prayers and thoughts of so many family and friends.
